Hey,
It's Iris

A Little About Me

As you've already seen above with my photo from years ago...my name is Iris. I graduated with my Bachelors in Fashion Design and Technology from Chip and Shannon Wilson School of Design (Kwantlen) in 2017. I grew wanting a career in fashion since I was a little girl, my grandma used to work in a apparel factory in the 60s and she would teach me how to sew and design clothes at eight years old. Since elementary school I only had one dream of becoming a designer. Because of my passion I love working in all aspects of the industry, I find each development process interesting and enjoy problem solving. I have years of experience in the entire design process from initial design from concept to launch. I've worked with overseas factories from prototype to final launch products. I enjoy working in teams but also work effectively alone as well, I have also come to learn that although work is important that life and work can be harmonious and inspirations can happen anywhere. I thrive to be a well rounded individual in my technical skills as a designer but also as a human being living and working together in the same environment. Please take a scroll below which includes some of my most recent works but not limited to the works below. If you have questions please reach out!

Technical

As a designer at RC we go through the entire design process, from concept to product launch. This allows me to experience the whole process which includes initial concept, color research/forecast, fabric research/forecast, prototype pattern drafting, prototype testing analysis, communicating with suppliers, testing trims, problem solving, techpacks, QC forms, surface pattern design, initial costing, fittings.

Outerwear

Technical flat and float drawings were apart of my daily work load. I deliver initial design to packaging. In the packaging process we make sure products are delivered in designated carton sizes and safely over time. We make sure our products are PROP 65 compliant. Aside from detailed explanations of the designs I would update and change pattern pieces to correspond to the desired fit and design. During this time costing would constantly be updated to correspond to the updates of design.

Pattern

Pattern designing was like a treat during work. I enjoyed doing the research and playing around with designs to make each pattern aesthetically pleasing, depending on the product shape some patterns need to be adjusted. Color palettes and themes were decided as a team using forecasting boards. As a technical designer this was also a part of my job, a lot of research and forecasting.

Accessories

I was lead designer for accessories allowing me to work with many different shapes and end use.

Aside from designing product that launch a part of my job required R&D. As a designer researching all the innovative fabrics, trims and technology that could potentially be incorporated into my designs were fascinating. Other concepts I have researched were solar heated panels, vegetable leather, decomposing trims and fabric, iridescent fabrics, LED fabrics and unique trims.
